Do you need an amp if you hook up subwoofers in your car?

Search Connect a Smartphone to Your Car Stereo Connecting a smartphone or mobile device to your car stereo is a great way to listen to music, audiobooks and podcasts while driving. There’s a few ways to accomplish this. This should work with most phones and iPods, and actually will allow you to access the audio on the device through the native car stereo interface. This is great because in many cases it will allow you to keep your eyes on the road instead of handling a phone while driving, which in many states is illegal. Connecting through Auxiliary In This has become standard in newer car stereos, allowing you to connect any device that can play audio to the stereo. This won’t allow control of the device through the car stereo, but is very simple to do. Connect with Bluetooth Some cars come with bluetooth built into the stereo, and if your car has it, check the owner’s manual to find out how to pair it with your phone. Like the auxiliary option, you won’t have control of the phone through the stereo interface, but it does offer added convenience.

Now I can build a stereo system! Reply Mr D March 13, at 6: Now this old hippie can rock n roll all night long and party everyday!

I am a novice in car audio, but recently I came across 2 free subwoofers. A guy in my neighborhood gave me the subs that used to be in his car. When he first offered me the subs, I told him I dont need them because I dont even have an amp. He told me that their was a way that people hook up subs.

Posts I don’t advocate wiring speakers in series – at least not for “hi fidelity” home audio systems. If the only consideration were the impedance load on the amp, series wiring would be okay, but that isn’t the only consideration. When you wire speakers together in parallel you actually create two seperate circuits. The speakers are not really tied to together electrically, and each speaker is free to act independent of the other one, but so long as they create very similar loads to the amp, they will work in unison fairly well as if they were one speaker.

A series wiring scheme ties the speakers together in one circuit so that the speakers are forced to behave as one electrical load. The problem arises as the electrical signal is passed through the first speaker and is changed by this electrical load. The modified signal is then sent on to the second speaker where is is faithfully reproduced. Since neither speaker is reacting to the same electrical signal, they do not work together in unison, but rather work against each other.

The result is that these two speakers behave as a single poorly damped speaker, not a desirable sonic trait, and can also create problems in the form of back emf. I’m not saying that it can’t be done, but if fidelity is important to you, I’d advise against it. Of couse, if fidelity is truly important to you, then I’d advise against the whole two center speaker concept anyway.

Certified Quality Entertainment 3: If it’s too bass heavy, turn down your booth, not enough bass, turn it up a little. That’s more of a trial and error than saying keep them at the same level. As long as you are keeping your signal clean no red on your line meters and no red on your master meter, no clip lights blinking on your speakers you will be fine with adjusting as you need Ulrich von Hurtem 4: You need an active crossover.

To do so you need to take a piece of speaker cable (16 Gauge will do) and connect it into and then the other side into Battery. If your amp is bigger then watts you will want two cables bridging it, if you don’t you will burn the cable up.

Being only a 5 minute drive to the Crutchfield Store Number one Car and Home Audio Store in the USA I was able to get good deals from friends that work there at store prices of course , and get quality products that were dependable. I had a stereo system that reached up to db. That would have been almost equaled to standing next to a jet engine, and that is no joke. Loud enough, that when at competitions, I needed to wear ear protection, and when in the car I could feel the air being sucked from my lungs.

Friends have had nose bleeds due to the massive waves of air forcing through my car. I went through this new car of mine at the time, and sealed every floor board, firewall, hole nook and cranny with clear silicone caulk and added sound dampening material to it called dynomat which made my car almost like being away from everything when it was shut off because it was so quiet, and when it was on, it was like being right on stage next to the speakers feeling the air move with in the car.

It was a huge rush. I could have gone louder, but did not want to risk blowing windows out of my car and having to replace them with Plexi Glass windows. But it was not just about the Bass, it was about clean sound. You could not just hear my Bass from 5 blocks away, but you could also hear the words of the song as well, and feel the beats in your chest as if someone were punching you again and again, and that is some serious sound.

I had 2 guage wire with a 60 Amp Fuse under the hood, and a nice distribution block and cap in the back. I am one for clean, crisp, clear sound with absolutely no distortion. I can’t deal with that distortion crap, not at all.

How to Wire an Amp & Subwoofers Into a Stock Stereo

Both the theory and practical points on how to connect 2 speakers are discussed. Connecting 2 speakers in parallel or series to your amplifier is useful when: If you need to turn each speaker on or off individually or have separate volume controls, you may need a speaker selector switch. Many people get confused when we talk about a stereo amplifier. A stereo amp simply has two amplifiers built into the one box.

We are not talking about connecting two speakers to a stereo amp, as that simply involves connecting one spe aker to each amplifier left and right.

Step. Turn the speaker volume all the way down. Plug the input speaker cable into your cell phone’s headset jack. Step. Play the music file or continue your conversation while you slowly turn the speaker volume up until it is at the desired volume.

My Jeeps I recently installed 2 kicker comp 10″ in my 98 jeep cherokee. I purchased an 8 guage wiring kit along with my subs. It came with power wire, ground, speaker wire, fuse, and remote wire. You connect the power wire to the positive of the battery and then make sure your fuse is within 18inches of the battery. Then i ran the power wire through the firewall and down the driver side floor panel to the rear of my car.

If you have a upgraded head-unit with rca pre-amp outputs you just connect your RCA’s and follow the same path as your wiring. Theres a blue wire in your wiring harness behind the head-unit.

Speaker Connections for proper impedance match A note about amplifiers: You should always use the recommended load for your amplifier. However, if you must use a load other than the recommended load, here is a short guide. Most solid-state amplifiers would rather look at an open circuit no speaker at all than a load.

To try to get this working, I recently purchased a secondary amp with RCA inputs to power the extra speakers. The additional speakers 5 pairs are mounted in the ceilings throughout the house. I also have a speaker selector box so that I can select which room or rooms I want to send the sound to. The output can be mono. I just want some sound to the other rooms.

Any ideas short of buying a new amp with a 2nd zone output? Thanks, -Rich DiPietro Hi, Rich, This is a question that we get from time to time for various receivers so I’ll answer for your specific receiver but will also give suggestions that would work for any receiver. Obviously the best option to accomplish what you are trying to do would be to use a “Zone 2” line level output or a “B Speakers” speaker output if your receiver had either of these which it doesn’t.

But there are other options. On some receivers, there are “tape output” or “preamp” outputs that could be connected to an external amplifier like the one you bought to drive the additional speakers. That output is turned off by default.

Connecting individual woofers in a series configuration is not common in car audio. This is a lot more common in musical instrument guitar and bass guitar speaker cabinets. In the diagrams below, you can see the relative current flow from the amplifier’s outputs indicated by the red arrows into various loads. At the bottom, you can see that 2 ohm mono two 4 ohm speakers bridged is the same as 1 ohm stereo four 4 ohm speakers per channel.

Jul 25,  · ok so say I get new speakers for my car along with a after market head unit and I want to hook the speakers up to my amp do I conect them to the high input or low input?? uh, if you’re connecting speakers to the amp, you want to connect them to the OUTPUT, not the input.

What you need is an electronic crossover. Please read this section where your post got moved, look for tutorials on how to properly use an EQ and a Crossover. But in your case, your powered PV sub already has an electronic crossover built in so you don’t need to get one–hopefully you do have it enabled.

The internal crossover should already be dividing the frequency at the cut off of Hz I Googled the specs of your sub–in the future be sure to enter the specs of your gear when requesting help here, so we don’t have to go searching for this info for you. At this time the only place where you “might” need the assistance of an electronic crossover that’s if there isn’t one integrated with your top speakers or sub. So this way, the top powered speakers don’t have to produce frequencies lower than Hz since your Sub will handle this.

This way your tops can play the upper frequencies and also have a better increase in headroom. You may not even need to purchase an additional crossover since most powered subs have what they call “high-pass” thru built in. Using this feature will only send the mid and high frequencies to your powered tops and leaving the bass frequencies for the Sub.

Best Car Subwoofers

Even if you have high-end speakers and amplification, a subwoofer can add the deep bass that you may be missing. Connect using a line-out connection. This type of connection will send a nonamplified, low-frequency signal to your subwoofer. This is for powered subwoofers only subwoofers with built-in amplification that you plug into the power outlet. Turn the subwoofer “On” on your receiver or preamplifer menu.

Connect using speaker-level connections.
