The History of Llandudno The history of Llandudno — from ancient to modern times. The flat area that is now home to the famous seaside resort of Llandudno has not always been as homely as people would like to think; indeed, Llandudno has a surprising history dating from very ancient times. Look around you — the shops, hotels, arcades, memorials and churches stand proud. But years ago, there was nothing here but uninhabitable common marshland, used by locals for grazing and fishing, but certainly not for living.
The earliest evidence of human inhabitation in the area comes from the Great Orme itself. We therefore know that people have inhabited the Llandudno area for around five thousand years.
The demolition of an historic Llandudno hotel site has re-started after months of delay. Work on the Tudno Castle site began back in but had to be halted when plans to retain the facade had.

The farm park has a licensed restaurant open daily and is also the home of the North Wales Bird Trust. Compared with the Great Orme , the Little Orme, has seen relatively little development although there was significant limestone quarrying on the eastern side until recently.
The Little Orme presents excellent opportunities for walking and nature study, and its cliffs and caves are a major challenge to experienced climbers. Historically, the Little Orme was the larger part of the township of Rhiwledyn, which comprised a number of farms and smallholdings dating from about the time of Edward I who gave Rhiwledyn to the Bishop of Bangor. Gradually the land ownership was acquired and consolidated into larger but fewer farms by the Mostyn family.
There is archaeological evidence for both neolithic and Roman presence on the Little Orme but not to any great extent. See Llandudno Catholic History for the full story.
